PetrolPuppy is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under GDPR (for EU/UK users) and applicable Australian privacy law.

1. Data we collect

Account data: If you register, we store your email address and name. Authentication is handled securely by our auth provider.

Preferences:Your preferred fuel type, country, and language are stored in your browser's local storage and, if logged in, in your account profile.

Location:If you enable location services, your device's GPS coordinates are used to find nearby stations. We do not store your location on our servers — it is processed in your browser and sent directly to our API to return nearby results. Location data is not retained after your session ends.

Usage data: Standard web server logs (IP address, page URL, timestamp, browser type). Logs are retained for 90 days and then deleted.

Cookies: We use strictly necessary cookies for session management. With your consent, we may use advertising cookies (Google AdSense) and analytics cookies.

2. How we use your data

Providing the service: To show you fuel prices, remember your preferences, and manage your account. Legal basis: contract performance.

Improving the service: Aggregated, anonymised usage data helps us understand which features are used. Legal basis: legitimate interests.

Advertising: We display ads via Google AdSense. AdSense may use cookies to show personalised ads. You can opt out of personalised ads via your Google account settings. Legal basis: consent.

Subscription billing: If you subscribe, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Legal basis: contract performance.

3. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Better Auth— authentication provider
  • Stripe— payment processor (see Stripe Privacy Policy)
  • Google— advertising (AdSense) and maps. Google may process data for personalised advertising if you consent.
  • Our hosting provider— infrastructure services

4. Your rights (EU/UK — GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access— request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Erasure— request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Portability— receive your data in a machine-readable format
  • Rectification— correct inaccurate data
  • Objection— object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Withdraw consent— at any time, for consent-based processing (e.g. advertising cookies)

5. Your rights (Australia — Privacy Act 1988)

6. Data retention

  • Account data: retained until you delete your account
  • Fuel price history: retained for 12 months then automatically deleted
  • Server logs: retained for 90 days then deleted
  • Inactive accounts: accounts with no activity for 3 years will be notified and then deleted

7. Cookies

Necessary cookies: Session management. Cannot be disabled.

Analytics cookies: Used to understand aggregate usage. Requires your consent.

Advertising cookies: Used by Google AdSense for personalised ads. Requires your consent. You can manage AdSense preferences at adssettings.google.com.
