Privacy Policy
PetrolPuppy mobile app (iOS & Android)
Effective date: 12 July 2026
PetrolPuppy ("we", "us", or "the app") is operated by Josh Salway, an Australian sole trader. This policy explains what the mobile apps collect, how that information is used, and the choices you have.
The website has a separate web privacy policy.
Summary
- No account required. PetrolPuppy works without a sign-up.
- Location is used for nearby results. Your chosen search area or device location is sent to PetrolPuppy only when needed to find nearby stations. It is never sent to PostHog or Sentry.
- No advertising or purchases. This version does not contain ads, subscriptions, purchases, or a paywall.
- No cross-app tracking. We do not use IDFA, the Android Advertising ID, or analytics for advertising or tracking across other companies' apps and websites.
- Limited anonymous analytics and diagnostics. We use PostHog Cloud EU for explicit product-interaction events and our self-hosted Sentry service for crashes and performance.
Information we collect
Information you give us. PetrolPuppy does not require an account. We do not collect names, email addresses, or contact information unless you choose to email us directly.
Approximate or precise location. When you grant location permission or search an area, the app uses coordinates to request nearby fuel stations from PetrolPuppy's service. We use them to answer that request rather than build a location history. You can deny or revoke location permission and use a default region or an area you choose.
Product interaction analytics. When analytics is enabled, the app sends a deliberately small set of events to PostHog Cloud EU. These events tell us whether the app was opened, location permission was granted or denied, a nearby or place search succeeded, a station was selected or viewed, a favourite was added or removed, or directions were started. Events may include broad technical context such as app version, operating system, platform, and selected country.
What product analytics exclude. PostHog does not receive coordinates, addresses, search text, station identities, fuel prices, names, email addresses, payment information, exception messages, or stack traces. Automatic interaction capture, session replay, GeoIP enrichment, surveys, feature flags, remote configuration, and PostHog error tracking are disabled.
Anonymous identifiers. PostHog creates a random, app-scoped identifier so events from one installation can form an anonymous journey. Sentry may use an install-scoped identifier to group diagnostics. We do not connect either identifier to an account, advertising identifier, or cross-company profile.
Crash and performance diagnostics. Sentry receives crash reports and sampled performance diagnostics, which can include a stack trace, app version, operating system version, device model, and timing information. Default personal-information collection is disabled. Sentry is not used for product analytics or advertising.
Information from public sources. Fuel prices and station details come from public government feeds and licensed broker feeds. This information concerns businesses rather than app users.
How we use information
We use information only to:
- Return nearby fuel stations and prices.
- Understand whether anonymous users can complete important app journeys and where the experience needs improvement.
- Diagnose crashes and performance problems.
We do not sell, rent, or share information for marketing purposes.
Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | Data location | Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| PostHog Cloud EU | Limited anonymous product analytics | European Union | posthog.com/privacy |
| Sentry (self-hosted) | Crash reporting and performance diagnostics | European Union | sentry.io/privacy |
Data retention
Because there is no account, we hold no named customer profile. Location requests return nearby results rather than create a location history. Anonymous PostHog events and Sentry diagnostics are retained only for product improvement, security, and troubleshooting.
You may contact us to request deletion. Because identifiers are anonymous, include the app platform and an approximate event time so we can make a reasonable attempt to locate the relevant records.
Your choices
- Stop location access: revoke location permission in system settings. The app continues with a default region or an area you choose.
- Stop new app analytics: delete the app. PetrolPuppy does not use analytics for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- Remove local state: deleting PetrolPuppy removes its local preferences and anonymous installation state. There is no server-side account to delete.
Children
PetrolPuppy is rated 4+ on the App Store and Everyone on Google Play. It is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
International processing
PetrolPuppy is operated from Australia. Product analytics are sent to PostHog's EU service. Diagnostic data is sent to PetrolPuppy's self-hosted Sentry service in the EU. Service providers may support these systems from other countries under their respective privacy and security terms.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The effective date will change when we do, and material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
